Earlier this month, I visited the school’s libraries service. They do excellent work providing a library service to all maintained schools since the formation of Wirral borough council in the 1970’s.

This service only costs schools £7.78 per child per year, and schools can borrow books that are relevant to the subjects being taught in the school during that term. They also lend coding kits out to schools as well.

There are 150,000 items available for loan at any one time with 1,000 boxes delivered per week at start of term with a turnaround of 50,000 items.

With the Tories having decimated the education budget for schools, services such as these are vital. Many Local Authorities have lost similar services, so it is fantastic that Wirral Council has prioritised the school’s library service.

The Labour Party has pledged to reform our education system so that it is fully funded to ensure that every school has the resources it needs so that every child can have the education they deserve.
