The closure of Emslie Morgan Academy raises serious questions about the Tory government’s academisation process, and why the Regional Schools Commissioner, Vicky Beer, did not step in sooner.

Encouraging the creation of academy trusts has been reckless, and we have seen countless stories about trusts taking on more schools than they can cope with, leading to trusts subsequently mismanaging them and resulting in school closures. There is little or no regard to education or the future of the children involved, and academisation is a policy that needs to be reversed.
