This week is Parliament Week! Parliament Week is an annual festival that helps to engage people across the country with Parliament and what Parliament means to them, and empowers people to get involved.
This year we also are celebrating 100 years since the first women gained the right to vote and a record high of women MPs were elected to the House of Commons in 2017’s General Election.
There are many exciting events taking place in both Parliament and Wallasey as part of Parliament Week, I enjoyed my visit to the 12th Wallasey Scouts to help them learn about democracy and how they can participate fully in the years to come. It was a lively and engaging session and it was great to see so many children getting involved and celebrating one of the most important centenaries in British democratic history.
Engaging our young people to think about Parliament and UK politics is vital for the future and strength of our democracy. Let me know if you have anything planned for Parliament Week, and even if you don’t, there is still time to get involved! Find out more here: www.ukparliamentweek.org
