Chequers Agreement

Today, there were extraordinary scenes with both the Brexit Secretary, David Davis, and the Foreign Secretary, Boris Johnson, resigning and plunging this weak, incompetent Government even further into crisis. On Friday, Theresa May held an away day for her Cabinet at Chequers. It was meant to be an opportunity to present a negotiating plan for Brexit in a last ditch attempt to unite the divided Cabinet. The display of unity from the Cabinet lasted all of 48 hours. How can we expect Theresa May to negotiate a Brexit with the 27 EU member states that protects our jobs, economy, environmental protections and food standards if she can’t even negotiate with her own Cabinet? It is clear that this is a shambolic and divided Government, completely out of touch, with a Prime Minister who has no authority left. There are rumours of even more resignations from the Cabinet, and a possible leadership challenge for the Prime Minister.This has shown that the Government are only committed to serving their own ambitions, putting the interests of the Tory Party ahead of the country, regardless of the damaging consequences for the nation.
