Show Racism the Red Card
Show Racism the Red Card

With the World Cup well under way, I joined some of my colleagues to support the campaign to Show Racism the Red Card.

Show Racism the Red Card are one of the UK’s main anti-racism educational charity, and they have been working to tackle racism in society for more than 20 years. The charity focus on using football, and the experiences of Black and Ethnic Minority football players to help eradicate racism. They operate training sessions and educational resources, and deliver training to over 50,000 individuals per year.

The Labour Party has a proud tradition of striving to achieve equality in society, and working to eradicate all forms of discrimination, including racism. The Labour Party have been responsible for introducing the Race Discrimination Act, the Equal Pay Act, the Sex Discrimination Act, the Equality Act, the Minimum Wage and introduced Sure Start centres. It was also the last Labour government that enshrined the rights and freedoms contained in the United Nations Convention on Human Rights into UK law, marking the birth of the Human Rights Act.

Although all of these policies introduced by the Labour Party have gone some way to creating a fairer and tolerant society, there is still a lot of work to do, until all forms of discrimination, including racism are eradicated, and that is why I’m proud to be supporting Show Racism the Red Card’s Wear Red campaign.
