On Thursday I had the pleasure of visiting Victoria Pharmacy in New Brighton, to see the work that Ian Cubbin and his team are doing to help take the strain off the NHS locally.

Community pharmacies provide a vital role in the NHS often acting as the first line of defence. It is estimated that roughly 80% of patient contact with the NHS is done at community pharmacies like Victoria Pharmacy in New Brighton. This is something that is only set to increase, as continued under-funding of our NHS by the Conservative Government means we are facing the worst winter crisis for a generation.

Increased waiting times for GP appointments, overstretched A&E and the closure of Eastham Walk-In Centre has led to a perfect storm for patients on Wirral. It’s good to see community pharmacies taking proactive measures to help support our NHS by offering services such as medication consultations and flu-jabs.

I will continue to speak up for Wallasey on this issue and hold the government to account. It is important that we continue to fight the proposed STP for Wirral, which could see Arrowe Park closed and the A&E moved to Ellesmere Port – you can sign my petition here: http://www.angelaeagle.co.uk/save_wirral_nhs

Finally, as Ian says in the video below, we too can do our bit to help support the NHS and relieve some of the pressure by making sure we get a flu jab. You may be eligible for a free flu jab, you can find out by contacting your local pharmacist.
