Nuclear Test Veterans
Nuclear Test Veterans

I’m pleased to be supporting calls for Britain’s nuclear testing veterans to be awarded a medal.

The British Nuclear Testing Programme ran between 1952 and 1967, it was the largest Tri-Service operation since the D-Day landing.

Operation Grapple Y took place 60 years ago. Britain exploded a 2.8 megaton bomb at Christmas Island in the South Pacific, with the help of 22,000 servicemen.

Although the servicemen involved have long since suffered the effects of being a part of the nuclear testing, their sacrifice continues to be officially denied.

Every other nuclear power has acknowledged their nuclear veterans and it is time for British Nuclear Veterans who participated are recognised.
